Post icon Update both Twitter and LinkedIn from each other

A new feature has been rolled out at LinkedIn over the last day or so, which allows you to post a Tweet to your LinkedIn Status.  With the different emphasis of each, you can set it to only Tweet those which include the hash tag #in, that way easily selecting what to update.  When updating your LinkedIn status you can easily then tick the box to update Twitter too.  This is a really handy idea and one that we expect to happen with lots of other applications.

The video below shows LinkedIn Co-founder Reid Hoffman and Twitter Co-founder Biz Stone and for a quick video tutorial on how to get set-up, check out the video at 1:43:

Post icon Adding more to holding pages using free tools

Use Twitter RSS feeds to enhance your holding page

A lot of clients ask for holding pages on web projects, but at the same time wish to keep visitors up to date. After all, there is nothing worse than seeing a “Under construction, ready in Feb 2009” when the months pass and it becomes very outdated. With so much for free on the web it makes sense to use it and below outlines a nice use to create a more dynamic holding page.

You can use your Twitter feed to create an RSS feed of updates, which can then be used to make a news widget.  For free new/feed widgets you can use BlastCasta, which even links to your Twitter feed for you if you provide your username.  You can then customise this to suit and use Twitter to keep your visitors up to date with more than a generic message.

Post icon Keeping your online ’social life’ in order

In search of saving myself time and with the aim of trying to be a good social site company, I went in search of a few tools to help me out.  The first I found is called Yoono and I have used it as a Firefox add-on.   It’s great, you can quickly sign up to many of your main sites such as Twitter, Facebook, MySpace, Flickr, Google Chat and many more are likely to be added.  From one easy side bar you can update various site status* in one go and keep on top of those updates.

Yoono supports many social sites

The next interesting tool is another Firefox Add-on called Shareaholic, which enables you an easy way to share sites without cluttering your browser window to your various social pages, such as Digg, Delicious, Stumble Upon, LinkedIn, Twitter, Facebook and many many more.  Interesting features too with their BuzzMonitor:

You can now find the freshest news, videos and blogs as they emerge on the realtime web within Shareaholic and easily share that on any of your social networks.

* PS. Just a little note to the curious that the plural of status in English is status… and in American English it’s statuses.
