CDWe all have our own preference to programs and file types are no different.  If your sent a file that you can’t open, before reaching out to install any software we definitely recommend a visit to media-convert.com.  This great site features a vast list of supported file types which can be converted free and on-line, advanced features and easy methods of either downloading the file or sending a link to others.  Just to mention it again, it’s free too!

Post icon Terragen 2 – Landscape creation

Once again, I have been looking into the wonderful Terragen 2.  Below are some recent trials using real world DEM (Digital Elevation Model) data of Yosmite National Park and the Grand Canyon.  I’m sure I am not alone in the frustration at the lack of reliable tutorials and guides, with lots of broken links and half finished articles.  My brain aches from too much time playing around with the node network and custom functions, but overall was fairly pleased with these recent efforts.

Post icon Virgin Galactic artwork

Virgin Galactic emblem and logo

As a Formula One fan, I was reminded of Virgin Galactic, with Branson’s recent sponsoring of the Braun F1 Team and the addition of the Virgin Galactic logo yesterday.  I don’t have a spare $200,000 so guess I will remain earth bound for the foreseeable future, but was impressed with the great design and artwork.  Below is a sample and if you are interested, then definitely check out the videos and pictures on the website: www.virgingalactic.com

Post icon Google celebrate Easter

Eric Carle's the very hungry caterpillar
This morning’s Google Logo made me smile, with their logo to celebrate the first day of Spring, with a logo by Eric Carle’s and his creation, the very hungry caterpillar. I don’t know whether the book is still around as was first out in the 70′s, but it certainly should be as one of my all time favourite books from my childhood.

Post icon Google salute Italian astronomer Giovanni Schiaparelli

Another nice offering from Google, with their logo artwork to celebrate the Birthday of Italian astronomer Giovanni Schiaparelli, who drew maps from his observations of Mars in the late 19th Century:

You can do your own exploring of Mars with the help of Google Labs or watch a video made with Terragen 2 (landscape creating software) and terrain data from Nasa:

Post icon Setting up your email in Thunderbird or Outlook

Here are two links to clear and easy to follow tutorials on setting up your emails in Thunderbird or Outlook.  Your version may vary, but should still resemble the guides closely enough to follow.

Post icon Slight lack of effort from Google?

stdavid09

I enjoy the Google logo changes to mark events, though just felt that the St. Davids Day offering this year lacked a little effort on the design and creativity front. Not a very subtle placing of the leek!  You can find lots more at www.google.com/holidaylogos.html.

Post icon Google launches Google Latitude – See where your friends and family are

Google Latitude Logo

Google Latitude launches

Google Maps Mobile and iGoogle now support Google Latitude, an application to help you publish your location, see where your friends and family are and to make getting in touch simple. It has privacy controls and on a ‘contact by contact’ basis and globally. My GPS accuracy currently ranges from within 4000m to the within 3m (Blackberry 8900, on Orange) and for me I met the news with excitement. Here’s a nice video to explain further:
