A guide to getting the right photos for your site

With graphics used correctly a site can be punchy to make the site memorable to the user, assure them that you are professional and appeal to them aesthetically. Over-do it and the page will be half loaded before they click else where and you lose out.

Depending on your business or activity you may decide you want to choose one or more from the following:

Take the photos yourself

With the rise in popularity of digital cameras it is usually possible for photos to be taken yourself. It might be handy to note that the web uses a picture quality of 72 dpi and print uses a much higher resolution of 300 dpi. This means that images used for print are great for web use, but you may not be able to use your web site images in print unless you keep the hi-resolution original.

We can accept your images for inclusion in your web site by e-mail or on CD/DVD by post to: Realising Designs, 14 Cobden Place, Canterbury, Kent, CT1 2DU

Use other peoples free images

A good supply of commercially* free photography is morgueFile.com and the stockxchng. Each photo has a note from the photographer, so be sure to read their request. Some simply ask for an e-mail to state where you have used their work.

Pay for royalty-free images

Should you wish to use a high quality photo, perhaps for a specific purpose and you are looking for a low priced option, then stockxpert.com may be a great place to start.

I have an account with stockxpert.com and can order you any images you will require for your site and will add to your invoice at the cost. Please e-mail me and be sure to include the image name and the size of image you would like purchase.

Pay for a photographer

If you still can’t find the photograph you are looking for, or wish for a bespoke professional photograph then you should look to find a well priced professional photographer. Once you have the photos, you can forward them on by e-mail or on a CD/DVD to: Realising Designs, 14 Cobden Place, Canterbury, Kent, CT1 2DU
